On May 23, POL/ECON Off delivered reftel talking points to
Rui Noronha, Deputy Director of the Office of Policy and
Planning at the Ministry of Agriculture, informing Portugal
of the U.S. approach to the food crisis and seeking
cooperation. Mr. Noronha expressed Portugal's deep concern
concerning the upward price trend of agricultural
commodities, and emphasized Portugal's support for long-term
productivity solutions, including a science-based and
expeditious approval process for biotech events on the EU
level.
