1 (SBU) Post fully endorses the FY 2008 Maritime Security
Capability Enhancement (MSCE) and West and Central Africa
Maritime Equipment Package (WCA) proposals for Section 1206
funding for Gabon and Sao Tome and Principe (STP) that were
submitted by EUCOM. Increased maritime awareness in the Gulf
of Guinea, through electronic and other means, is a vital U.S.
interest and a top mission priority. Both control and
awareness
of the movement of people and goods in these oil-producing
strategically important waters is key to combating terrorism
and enhancing regional security. Likewise, well-maintained
patrol craft, effectively deployed, advance the same
objectives.
