OFFICIALS ON GCC TRADEMARK LEGISLATION

1.(U) On July 29, Econoff spoke with Assistant U/S Ministry
of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) Abdulaziz Al-Khaldi to follow
up on the progress of the GCC draft Trademark Law and deliver
points (reftel) regarding USG interest in providing technical
assistance with the drafting process. U/S Al-Khaldi advised
Econoff that Mr. Ali Al-Hajri, Director of the MOCI Patent
and Trademark Office, was the only GOK official prepared to
comment on the draft law and would be out of country until
mid-August. U/S Al-Khaldi requested Econoff contact Al-Hajri
directly to discuss any issues regarding the draft law.
