SUBJECT: NOTE VERBALE FROM THE INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE OF
THE RED CROSS TO A. CRONAUER
1. Please deliver the following message from International
Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Mr. Adrian Cronauer,
Special Assistant to the Director of Defense Prisoner of
War/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO). Original will follow via
diplomatic pouch.
2. Begin Text:
Dear Adrian:
On behalf of all the members of the Tripartite Commission on
the Missing of the 1990/91 War, I would like to thank you for
your personal involvement in the process for the past 7 years.
Your kind letter addressed to the ICRC was added to the
official minutes of the meeting.
We all regretted your absence, but we understood that the
transition period between the outgoing and the incoming US
Administrations did not allow you to travel to Kuwait.
This was an interesting session as the TC - having been
informed of the very low rate of positive closures this year
- decided to double the number of meetings of the Technical
Sub-Committee in 2009, hoping to put additional pressure on
some of the key participants. We also hope that fieldwork
will resume next year, given the relative improvement of the
security situation inside Iraq, which should have a positive
impact on the number of cases closed.
We are looking forward to welcoming Colonel David Ellis to
the next TC meeting, which should take place in Kuwait on the
25th of November 2009.
Please accept our thanks for the good work you accomplished
during all these years as well as our very best wishes for a
long and happy retirement.
With my very best regards
Yours sincerely
Jean-Michel Monod
Regional Delegate
