1. Malaysia's Foreign Ministry conveyed via diplomatic note a
congratulatory letter dated November 5 from Prime Minister
Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to President-elect Obama. The text of
the letter is included below. We will forward the hard copy
once received.


2. Begin text of letter:

His Excellency Senator Barack Obama
President-elect of the United States of AMERICA
Washington, D.C.

Dear President-Elect Obama,

It gives me great pleasure to convey to Your Excellency my
sincere congratulations on your success in being elected as
the 44th President of the United States of America.

Malaysia and the United States have developed a solid
relationship over the years. The future, I am sure, holds
many new opportunities for the enhancement of our bilateral
ties for the mutual benefit of our two countries and
peoples. Malaysia looks forward to working closely with
the United States to achieve these objectives.

Malaysia also looks forward to working closely with the
United States at the multilateral level to find solutions
to the many pressing international issues affecting world
peace, security and prosperity.

Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest
consideration.
