quick recognition of Kosovo's anticipated independence, on
February 11 to the Malaysian Foreign Ministry's acting Under
Secretary for UN and Multilateral Political Affairs Bala

Chandran Tharman. Polchief also recalled our January 15
demarche on Kosovo (ref B). Bala Chandran stated that the
Malaysian government, while it remained sympathetic, had not
made any final decision yet on Kosovo independence or the
timing of Malaysia's recognition of the new country.
Polchief followed up with Bala Chandran during a February 12
meeting, but received no further response other than
assurances that senior Malaysian officials were aware of the
U.S. position.
