SUBJECT: MALAYSIANS BRIEFED ON USS HOUSTON
REF: SECSTATE 85107 - INSTRUCTIONS
1. (SBU) The DATT conveyed reftel information on the USS
Houston to Admiral Abdul Aziz, Chief of the Navy (CNO) and to
Vice Admiral Mohammed Noordin, Deputy Chief of the Navy
(DCNO),on August 7. The admirals thanked the DATT for the
information, stated they were "not too concerned" about the
issue, which occurred in 2006, and understood the situation.
Rear Admiral Michael Connor, Commander, Submarine Group 7,
followed-up with the Malaysian CNO and DCNO the same day. On
August 11, the DATT relayed the background information as
instructed (reftel) to the CNO. The CNO accepted the
material without additional comment.
