(C) Political Section Chief on January 15 discussed the results of the 2007 Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) plenary in Athens and provided reftel non-paper to the Malaysian Foreign Ministry's Under Secretary for Disarmament and Nonproliferation Bala Chandran Tharman, who also is acting Under Secretary for UN and Multilateral Political Affairs. Polchief encouraged Malaysia as a non-member of the Regime to adhere nevertheless to MTCR guidelines on missile-related issues. Bala Chandran appreciated the sharing of this information, and said Malaysia attempted to keep close track of MTCR decisions and developments. Bala Chandran added that Malaysia would be interested in receiving information on India's current approach to the MTCR. KEITH
