(C) Per instructions reftel, Ambassador delivered demarche to
Foreign Minister Nyamwisi Mbusa May 24 during a meeting
between Mbusa, Ambassador, Deputy Fonmin Ignace Gata and DCM
Brock. Mbusa expressed surprise when informed of DRC
Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mawampanga Mwana Nanga's comments
regarding the role of the opposition in post election
violence. Mbusa was clearly flustered, as he had
acknowledged earlier in the conversation to our demarche
points on the need for SADC countries to urge the Government
of Zimbabwe to defuse tensions. Mbusa promised to contact
Mwana Nanga in Hararwe to seek an explanation and instructed
Deputy Foreign Minister Ignace Gata Mavita to follow up in
Mbusa's absence. (Note: Mbusa departed DRC for Japan later
the same day for an undisclosed period of time. End note)
