1. (U) Econcouns delivered reftel demarche to GDRC Ministry of
Agriculture Secretary General Ali Ramazani on December 4, sharing
talking points and background on the amended Lacey Act. While
Ramazani was not personally familiar with the Lacey Act, he
expressed general support for measures aimed at stemming illegal
trade in logging and related sectors, and lamented that other
countries, particularly in Asia, had not adopted similar measures.
He promised to share the information on the amended Lacey Act and
import declaration requirement with other relevant GDRC ministries
and agencies.
