1. On January 11, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated
in a diplomatic note that the Government of Nepal has decided
to support the candidacy of Pierre-Richard Prosper for
re-election to the United Nations Committee on the
Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The MFA previously had
said it would likely vote for Prosper (Ref A).

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Nepal
presents its compliments to the Embassy of the United States
of AMERICA in Kathmandu and, with reference to the Embassy's
note no. 364/07 dated 27 November 2007, has the honour to
inform that the government of Nepal has decided to support
candidacy of Mr. Pierre-Richard Prosper for re-election to
United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Racial
Discrimination (CERD),at the elections to be held at the
United Nations Headquarters, New York, on 17 January 2008.
The Ministry has further the honour to express the belief
that the mutual exchange of support and cooperation between
the two countries in various international forums would go a
long way in enhancing common endeavors on issues of mutual
interest.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of Nepal
avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Embassy of
the United States of AMERICA in Kathmandu the assurances of
its highest consideration.
