1. Since arriving at post in August 2007 Ambassador Powell
has held at least ten meetings with Tibetans living in Nepal.
Assistant Secretary for Population, Refugees, and Migration
Ellen Sauerbrey also held two meetings with Tibetans during
her visit to Nepal in November 2007.
2. The Ambassador has also invited local democracy and human
rights activists to a number of receptions at the Embassy, as
well as luncheons and receptions at her residence.
3. In addition, post's Refugee Coordinator and Consular
Section are in regular contact with Tibetan activists. The
Political/Economic Section also conducts frequent outreach
with local human rights and democracy activists.
