The Election Commission has announced the results for all 240 first-past-the-post (FPTP) contests from the April 10 Constituent Assembly (CA) election. None of the so-called "royalist" parties has won an individual contest. Five constituencies in which the winning candidate also won in another constituency will hold by-elections, dates to be determined. Communist Party of Nepal - Maoist - 120 seats (including 2 double wins); 50 percent of FPTP total Nepali Congress (NC) - 37 seats (including 1 double win); 15.4 percent Communist Party of Nepal - United Marxist Leninist (UML) - 33 seats; 13.8 percent Madhesi People's Rights Forum (MPRF) - 30 seats (including 2 double wins); 12.5 percent Other Madhesi parties - 13 seats; 5.4 percent Minor left parties - 5 seats; 2.1 percent Independents - 2 seats, 0.8 percent PR Votes Continue To Track with Projections -------------- ¶2. The counting of proportional representation (PR) ballots is approximately 95 percent complete. Results continue to be consistent with previous projections. Maoists - 30.2 percent NC - 21.4 percent UML - 20.6 percent MPRF - 5.8 percent Other Madhesi parties - 4.8 percent "Royalist" parties - 4.5 percent Other (including minor left parties) - 12.7 percent Projection of Total CA Seats -------------- ¶3. Current results suggest the following distribution of the 575 elected seats in the CA: Maoist - 120 FPTP 101 PR = 221 seats total (38.4 percent) NC - 37 FPTP 72 PR = 109 seats total (19 percent) UML - 33 FPTP 69 PR = 102 seats total (17.7 percent) MPRF - 30 FPTP 20 PR = 50 seats total (8.7 percent) Other Madhesi parties - 13 FPTP 16 PR = 29 seats total (5 percent) Other - 7 FPTP 57 PR = 64 seats total (11.1 percent) POWELL
