UNCLAS KATHMANDU 000396 SIPDIS SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: AMGT PGOV KDEM NP SUBJECT: EMBASSY KATHMANDU TO OPEN ELECTION OPERATIONS CENTER Embassy Opening Election Operations Center -------------- 1.(U) To coordinate reporting on Nepal's April 10 Constituent Assembly election, Embassy Kathmandu will open an Elections Operation Center. The center will monitor the safety of post's seven observer teams outside the Kathmandu Valley, and the five teams inside the Valley. In addition, the center will receive reports from our observers and contacts across the country as well as share information with international observer groups and other embassies. Sitreps will be produced and transmitted via front channel periodically throughout the day. 2.(U) The center will operate as long as needed. Currently, its scheduled hours are from 0700 to 2400 (local time) April 10 and from 0900 to 2115 on April 11. The following three direct telephone lines have been set up in the center: (977) 1 400 7296, (977) 1 400 7297, and (977) 1 472-1873. Emails sent to the distribution list, KathmanduElectionCenter@state.gov, can be read by all center staff. (Note: The Embassy will be open on April 10, but will be operating with limited staff.
