On March 28, Rudra Nepal, Under Secretary for the UN and
International Organizations at the Foreign Ministry, told the
Political/Economic Chief that he would convey the U.S.
position on renewing the mandate of the special rapportuer on
freedom of expression to Dinesh Bhattarai, Nepal's UN
representative in Geneva. He assured Emboff that the U.S.
request to endorse the Canadian resolution to renew the
mandate would be seriously considered, as well as the U.S.
request to oppose resolutions that restrict freedom of
expression, including the Organization of Islamic Conferences
annual resolution on "defamation of religion."
