1. (C) SUMMARY: Per reftel instruction, Mission has engaged
GOI contacts, emphasizing the importance of vigorous
implementation of all UNSC resolutions on Iran's nuclear
program. GOI officials agreed that Iran must comply with its
nonproliferation obligations and promised to continue to
implement the relevant resolutions. END SUMMARY.
2. (C) Pol/C delivered reftel demarche on implementing UNSC
resolutions regarding Iran's nuclear program to Tri Sukma
(Nanu) Djandam, a foreign affairs advisor in the President's
Office, on October 3. Separately, poloff conveyed USG views
to officials in the Directorate of North American Affairs and
the Directorate for International Security and Disarmament
Affairs at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DEPLU).
3. (C) Mission urged robust implementation of all
resolutions regarding Iran's nuclear programs. Pol/C thanked
Indonesia for supporting UNSCR 1835, which reiterated the
international community's call for Iran to comply with its
nonproliferation obligations. The recent resolution sends a
strong signal of continued international resolve and unity in
regard to the goal of preventing Iran from developing a
nuclear weapons capability. Given this unified call, it was
critically important that all countries continue to implement
all UNSC resolutions dealing with Iran's nuclear program in
order to support a diplomatic resolution to this problem.
Iran must comply with the UNSC's call to halt all
reprocessing activities and must comply fully with all IAEA
efforts to account for Tehran's nuclear activities.
4. (C) GOI officials agreed that Iran must comply with all
UNSC resolutions dealing with its nuclear program. They
assured us that Indonesia would continue to implement all
relevant UNSC resolutions. Mission provided the GOI points
describing all the resolutions and what was required.
