1. (C) SUMMARY: Pol/C met with GOI contact, urging that
Indonesia join the U.S. in publicly welcoming on June 30 the
follow-on resolution to UNSCR 1735 related to Al-Qaida and
the Taliban. Pol/C urged that the GOI join the USG in
strongly supporting the resolution in public. Pol/C noted
that the U.S. looks forward to continued work at the UN to
strengthen the regime and other international
counter-terrorism efforts. GOI contact took the points on
board. END SUMMARY.
2. (C) On June 30, Pol/C met with Trini Gunarti, Deputy
Director of the Americas Desk in the Department of Foreign
Affairs (DEPLU),and reviewed points contained in ref A
related to a follow-on resolution to UNSCR 1735 concerning
Al-Qaida and the Taliban. Mission also provided points to
contacts in the Presidential Palace and in other DEPLU
offices.
3. (C) Pol/C urged that the GOI join the USG in strongly
supporting the resolution in public. We urged that
member-states work to strengthen the regime further by
proposing names for listing and/or delisting as appropriate.
The UNSC--via this resolution--has demonstrated its continued
commitment to address the threat posed by Al-Qaida and the
Taliban. The USG looks forward to continued work at the UN
to strengthen the regime and other counter-terrorism efforts,
Pol/C concluded.
4. (C) Gunarti took the USG points on board, noting that she
would pass them to the Indonesian mission in New York.
