1. (C) On June 17, Poloff met with Fikry Cassidy Deputy
Director for International Security at the Department of
Foreign Affairs (DEPLU),to discuss reftel points. Poloff
underscored the UN Secretary General's reasons for
reconfiguring the UN mission in Kosovo and requested that the
GOI support the reconfiguration. Cassidy said he was unable
able to provide an official response to the U.S. request
because the Indonesian Foreign Minister, Hasan Wirajuda, was
attending the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC)
conference in Kampala, Uganda. Cassidy said Wirajuda would
return to Jakarta on June 21.
2. (SBU) Cassidy emphasized that the GOI had not recognized
Kosovo as an independent country but said the GOI might be
willing to consider the Secretary General's proposed
reconfiguration of the UNMIK mission.
