1. (C) On June 9 POLOFF met with Aris Munandar, Deputy
Director for Terrorism at the Department of Foreign Affairs
(DEPLU) to discuss the addition, per ref A, of the aliases of
two groups already on the UN 1267 list. POLOFF provided
information on the aliases, requested Indonesian support for
the listings and urged that Indonesia take appropriate
actions domestically.
2. (C) Responding, Munandar said DEPLU would pass the
aliases to appropriate members of the government, including
the Central Bank and Indonesian National Police's
anti-terrorist unit, Special Detachment 88 (SD-88),since
SD-88 was responsible for investigating all terrorism-related
issues in the country. Munandar said the GOI appreciated the
thorough investigations provided by the United States on
organizations and individuals as the basis for a UN 1267
listing. That said, Munandar reiterated previous DEPLU
statements (ref B) that Indonesia would likely not take any
domestic action on these 1267 listings because Indonesia
considered the 1267 process unfair and in need of reform.
