1. (S/NF) Embassy has seen ref (B) indicating that
ammunition and arms off hijacked U.S. convoys are being sold
in Pakistan. To be clear, no weapons, ammunition or
sensitive electronics are shipped to Afghansitan by land
routes through Pakistan, according to the Office of Defense
Representation in Pakistan. With the recent hijacking of two
U.S. Defense contracted trucks (Ref A),the Pakistani rumor
mill has generated reports about weapon caches supposedly
stolen from U.S. military and NATO convoys complete with
elaborate descriptions of nonexistent contents of containers.
Since no weapons or ammunition are ever included in cargo in
any container that is shipped by U. S. Defense contractors by
overland routes through Pakistan, any reports of agents
buying weapons from stolen U.S. military or NATO containers
are false.
