Central Asia Affairs Director Faisal Aziz Ahmed concerning
USG interests vis-a-vis the August 28 Shanghai Cooperation
Organization (SCO) summit. Ahmed noted that Pakistan would
be "just an observer" at the summit; Foreign Minister Shah
Mehmood Qureshi may not even attend, he added. Ahmed doubted
Pakistan would be included regarding any texts resulting from
the summit: "We are unlikely to be asked our opinion or to
give one." Their five-minute remarks would be limited to
stressing the original principals of the organization, also
highlighted in reftel points.
