(SBU) On May 28, POLOFF delivered reftel points to Farhat
Ayesha, the Assistant Director of the United Nations I Desk
at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the matter of
supporting Ambassador Bill Swing for the International
Organization for Migration (IOM) Director General. Farhat
noted to POLOFF that Pakistan was a large supporter of IOM
and its activities within the country, but at this time, she
did not know who her delegation would support on this June 18
vote. POLOFF encouraged Farhat to publicly endorse Ambassador
Swing for this position. (Note. The UN Desk at the MFA
commonly notes that it does not receive information on these
types of voting matters from their delegation until the vote
has taken place and a candidate is selected. End note.)
