UNCLAS HANOI 000728 SENSITIVE SIPDIS E.O. 12958: N/A TAGS: PREL PARM VM SUBJECT: GVN URGED TO CONSIDER PARTICIPATION IN PSI AND GLOBAL INITIATIVE REF: STATE 63899 (SBU) In a June 17 meeting with MFA Americas Department Director Nguyen Ba Hung, the DCM delivered reftel points urging the GVN to consider participation in the Global Initiative to Combat Nuclear Terrorism and to endorse the Proliferation Security Initiative Statement of Interdiction Principles. Hung said the GVN would continue its consideration of these two initiatives in its interagency process, involving the Ministries of Defense and Public Security and the General Department of Customs. He did not provide a time frame for a final decision. Post will continue to raise the issue. MICHALAK
