(SBU) On September, 4 Poloff met with MFA International
Organizations Human Rights Section Desk Officer Ms. Phung Thi Lan
Huong to deliver reftel points outlining U.S. priorities for the
UNGA Third Committee. In response, Ms. Huong stated that she would
immediately relay the points to her superiors regarding no-action
motions, country-specific resolutions and U.S. opposition to the
promotion of "defamation of religions." She noted that the GVN is
very familiar with the U.S. positions relating to the Third
Committee and human rights. She said that the MFA would take the
points under consideration, but pointed out that in general Vietnam
opposes country-specific resolutions.
