(C) Embassy delivered reftel demarche to MFA Director General
for Bilateral Affairs Carlos Raul Morales, who said the GOG
strongly condemns the FARC, and favors immediate FARC
disarmament and the release of hostages. Foreign Minister
Rodas later added that President Colom, while in Cartagena
for the August 1 regional counternarcotics summit, would meet
with President Uribe to personally reiterate his support for
the GOC's efforts to combat drugs and terrorism. He would
also take advantage of the opportunity to coordinate with the
GOC a public stance on the FARC. Rodas recalled that Uribe
and Colom are long time friends, and that Colom years ago had
worked in Colombia on social projects aimed at curbing the
FARC's influence.
