SUBJECT: POSSIBLE SHUTDOWN OF FINANCIAL OPERATIONS:
HURRICANE HANNA APPROACHES SOUTH CAROLINA
1. The National Hurricane Center is currently predicting
that Hurricane Hanna will make landfall near Charleston,
South Carolina on Friday evending or Saturday morning.
Management in GFS Charleston has convened its emergency
action committee and is watching the storm track and
continues to consult with the Department and local
authorities.
2. It is likely that GFS Charleston will cease normal
operations sometime on Wednesday, September 3 in anticipation
of the hurricane.
3. For all/all posts (including/including those serviced by
FSCs Bangkok or Charleston): All payroll for FSNs and
Americans has been loaded and is ready for payment as normal,
regardless of the possible hurricane track. However, it is
prudent for posts to evaluate NOW cash available to cashier
operations and voucher payments that are coming due over the
next two weeks. If post has critical payments, or cashier
replenishments ready to be transmitted, it would be best to
send those immediately so they may be paid before the
possible operations shutdown on Wednesday.
4. GFS Charleston has a tested continuity of operations plan
which calls for accounting and disbursing operations to be
moved to the Washington area in the event of a total closure
of GFS Charleston.
5. We will continue to provide further information on
Hurricane Hanna,s effect on normal GFS operations as it
becomes available.
