1. (C) Per request ref B, DCM delivered demarche concerning
Kosovo's status at the OIC summit to Sierra Leone MFA
Director General, Ambassador Umaru Wurie on March 11.
Unfortunately, it was not possible to deliver the demarche
before that date, as requested. DCM underscored the need to
support language in the OIC communiqu welcoming Kosovo's
independence, and urged Sierra Leone to recognize Kosovo's
status as soon as possible. As noted ref C, President Koroma
planned to lead a delegation to the OIC summit, As reported
ref D the Foreign Minister had indicated that Sierra Leone
would not take a decision until consultation with the Africa
group is finished.
2. (U) Per request Ref A, DCM also gave Ambassador Wurie a
copy of the letter to Foreign Minister Zainab Bangura from
the President and Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo
concerning Kosovo's declaration of independence and welcoming
cooperation with Sierra Leone and the international community.
