(SBU) Following discussions with the Armed Forces Division
(reftel B),Bangladesh Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed
Chowdhury July 1 told Ambassador Moriarty the government of
Bangladesh would not have available additional aviation
assets to support the UN-AU peacekeeping operation in Darfur
(UNAMID). Acknowledging the importance of UNAMID's mission,
Chowdhury reiterated Bangladesh's earlier offer of Bell
Utility helicopters (reftel A),which was declined by UNDPKO
as the helicopters did not provide the transport capacity
required.
