DONORS CONFERENCE

1. (U) DCM delivered reftel demarche regarding the Burma
Donors Conference to Bangladesh's Foreign Secretary, Touhid
Hossain, on May 21. We also followed up with the Foreign
Ministry's Asia and Pacific wing. Hossain told the DCM that
Bangladesh would be represented at the Donor's Conference by
its Ambassador in Rangoon.
2. (U) Local media has highlighted Bangladesh's modest
efforts to provide support to Burma, including sending
medical supplies and doctors. This follows an initial
shipment of non-food items in the immediate aftermath of the
cyclone.
