¶1. (SBU) Tanzania's Minister of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation, Bernard Membe, assured Ambassador
Green February 27 that President Kikwete is fully briefed on
the refusal of the Eritrean government (GSE) to provide fuel
to United Nations Mission in Ethiopia and Eritrea (UNMEE).
As Chair of the African Union (AU),Kikwete has instructed
Membe and other members of his AU team to work closely with
UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon to exert pressure on the GSE
to cooperate and supply the needed fuel. Post will report
any updates that may become available through the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs' AU Department.
