PolOff delivered Reftel demarche to Thomas Adoumasse, Director of
International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on
January 23, 2008. Mr. Adoumasse stated that he could not
immediately offer a formal declaration of support for Ambassador
Swift. He did indicate, informally, that the GOB planned to support
Ambassador Swift's candidacy. Though it did not present a problem
for Benin, Mr. Adoumasse stated that the U.S. should be ready to
respond to those who question the succession of one American by
another American to the post of Director General of the
International Organization for Migration (IOM).
