SUBJECT: VISAS VIPER FOR JUNE 2008 REPORTING PERIOD
¶1. Members of the Embassy Rabat and Consulate General Casablanca
joint Visas Viper Committee met July 7, 2008. The meeting was
attended by ACG, RAO, LEGATT, CONS, DAO, RSO, POL, ECON and PD.
¶2. Discussion centered on the recent arrests of 35 individuals
suspected of belonging to a network that recruits volunteers on
behalf of Al Qaeda in Iraq and Algeria. RAO is working on collecting
the names, dates and places of birth of the individuals, but had
nothing to report at this time.
¶3. The Mission's Acting Visas Viper Coordinator was Deputy Consular
Chief Kathleen Hanako Doherty.
