1. Chris King, Acting Director for Arms Control, Department
of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT),contacted POLOFF
September 19 to advise that the text of the U.S. draft
resolution, "Compliance with Nonproliferation, Arms Control,
and Disarmament Agreements" appeared acceptable to Australia
and that he would recommend to Foreign Minister Smith that
Australia co-sponsor it.
2. King apologized for the delayed response to our demarche,
explaining that it had been vetted with Australian mission
experts in Geneva and New York, as well as within DFAT.
