(C) We delivered Ref A demarche points, urging Australia to
persuade Twiza Oil's Danford Equities Corportation to
postpone its planned investment in petroleum exploration and
production in Burma, to Jeannie Henderson, Director for
Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Burma, Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade, on January 25. Henderson responded that
the substance of the demarche had already been delivered and
Australia had already responded, referring to Embassy
Rangoon's discussion with Australian DCM Starr (Ref B),in
which Starr pointed out that the GOA discourages but does not
ban private trade and investment in Burma.
