¶1. (SBU) On December 19, Lee Kerr, Department of Foreign
Affairs and Trade (DFAT),United Nations and Commonwealth
Section, told poloff that the GOA will not make a decision on
either participation in a Contact Group or on any request for
resources to combat Somali piracy until early 2009. DFAT
will request that their Embassy in Washington inform the
Department that they will not have a decision by the December
deadline.
¶2. (U) Responsibility for this issue has moved from the
Africa Section to United Nations and Commonwealth Section of
DFAT.
