(U) Action request: The Vice President of Argentina's National Senate and Chairman of the U.S.-Argentina Friendship Caucus Juan Carlos Romero wrote the Ambassador, asking him to forward to the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere Affairs the following message. Embassy requests the desk's assistance in conveying the text of the message to the SFRC. -------------- Wishes of closer dialogue -------------- ¶2. (U) The text of the December 10 letter from Senator Juan Carlos Romero, Vice President of the Argentine Senate, reads as follows: Dear Mr. Ambassador: I am pleased to write you in regard to the upcoming seating of the recently elected Senators in the Honorable Senate of the country you represent. In this regard, I would appreciate if you could transmit to the authorities in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, particularly those in the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, the hopes and will of the members of the (Argentine Senate's) U.S.-Argentine Friendship Caucus to strengthen the political ties and the parliamentary friendship bonds between our two countries. I believe that personal contacts between members of both institutions will be of great help in different issues that interest us and will also help start new future projects in this new stage that begins. In counting on your valuable help for this, I look forward to receiving any suggestions to follow-up on this new impulse on behalf of our bilateral relations. With the assurances of my highest consideration. Juan Carlos Romero, Chairman, U.S.-Argentina Friendship Caucus, National Senate, Buenos Aires. -------------- Comment -------------- ¶3. (SBU) Senator Juan Carlos Romero's message tracks with what we hear from many Argentine legislators who want to strengthen relations with the U.S. legislative branch in light of the change of administration in Washington.
