1. (U) In response to a diplomatic note delivered Friday,
October 24, Ambassador received a call from cabinet-ranked
Secretary General to the Presidency Oscar Parrilli October 27
to inform us that Argentine Ambassador the U.S. Hector
Timerman has been designated the GoA Sherpa for the upcoming
November 14-15 G-20 Financial Crisis Summit in Washington.
2. (U) While no Sous-Sherpa has yet been named, Embassy of
Argentina Washington DCM Perez Gabilondo confirmed to
EconCouns that Embassy Secretary Luciano Tanto will cover
Summit logistics and Minister Gustavo Torres will cover
press. DCM Gabilondo is eager to receive early information
on the Summit declaration drafting/clearance process.
3. (SBU) Ambassador Timerman has direct access to President
Fernandez de Kirchner and was probably chosen on that basis.
