On August 7, ESTH Hub Officer and ESTH FSN presented talking points in reftel to Tibor Farago, Head of the Ministry of Environment,s Strategy Department, who will represent Hungary at the 29th plenary meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Geneva in early September. Farago was not ready to comment on whether the GOH would support Dr. Field for the proposed Co-Chair position for Working Group II; he said he had not yet had a chance to review the entire slate of candidates proposed by all parties for the various slots. He asked whether the U.S. was putting forward any other nominees, indicating that although he thought there should be a U.S. representative in the IPCC Bureau, he expected the negotiations over who would get which position would be difficult. Farago expressed the hope that Hungary would also secure a position on the Bureau, noting that he had nominated several Hungarians for various IPCC Bureau positions.
