PolOff delivered ref A demarche to MFA Asia and Pacific Ocean
Department Head, Gyula Petho on May 23. Petho confirmed that
their Ambassador to Thailand, Andras Balogh will represent
Hungary at the conference. Petho said the Hungarians will be
in a listening mode, underscoring the hope that ASEAN will
understand that their rule of non-involvement in internal
affairs is not applicable in this case -- this is not about
helping the Burmese Government but the average Burmese
person. Continuing, Petho noted that the Hungarian NGO
Catholic Karitasz has donated 10 million forints
(approximately 65,000 USD) of which $25,000 comes from the
Hungarian Government.
