MFA Asia and Pacific Ocean Department Desk Officer, David
Ambrus, told POLOFF on May 21 that their Ambassador in
Bangkok will represent the GOH at the Burma Donors
Conference. Ambrus stated that the GOH agrees with the U.S.
view that it is too early to transition from recovery to
reconstruction. He noted that the MFA has already provided a
symbolic amount to the relief effort (ref b) through
international organizations, rather than directly to the
Burmese Government. Continuing, Ambrus commented that the
MFA's Senior State Secretary, Marta Fekszi, is working to
obtain additional relief funding from Government sources
outside the MFA, although prospects are not encouraging due
to the current tight budget situation.
