1. (S/NOFORN) At a special meeting arranged by Ambassador
Fox, Prime Minister Yves Leterme, was briefed by C/GRPO and
A/LAT on the developing security situation related to Al
Qaeda senior leadership's apparent interest in Belgium's
chemical/industrial infrastructure. The PM listened intently
and his diplomatic advisor Geert Muylle took notes.
2. (S/NOFORN) Comment: The PM meeting served to underscore
at the highest levels the seriousness of the threats and the
need for the information to get down to the ministerial and
working levels in the Belgian government. It is obvious from
our meeting with the Justice Minister (reftel) this goal is
being realized; Vandeurzen was well briefed and he expressed
the desire for close cooperation and information-sharing with
the U.S. at every opportunity. End Comment.
