Belgium's Civil Air Authority (CAA) informed the Brussels-based Transportation Security Administration (TSA) representative on December 22 that Brussel's Zaventem Airport will begin TSA-required additional security measures starting December 23, for a period of 90 days, while TSA and the European Commission craft a more long-standing solution. ¶2. Frank Durinckx, the acting Director General of the CAA, informed all U.S. air carriers as well as India-based Jet Airways on December 22 that for their flights leaving Zaventem for U.S. airports, a Belgian CAA-certified security agent of the Brussels airport inspectorate will carry out random continuous screening of passengers and their carry-on baggage, with one security agent per gate. The agent will also carry out a visual inspection of shoes for each person chosen at random. ¶3. TSA's Brussels-based representative reported that the Zaventem measures started on December 23, and that there were no significant issues, either for the screening agent or for the airlines. BUSH .
