1. (C) The military adviser to Minister of Defense Pieter De
Crem informed us that the GoB is consulting with OSCE about
the latter's efforts to expand its group of military
observers in Georgia from the current eight to a possible one
hundred and has offered to contribute ten Belgian military
officers of whatever rank and type OSCE could use.
2. (C) The acting director of the cabinet of Foreign Minister
Karel De Gucht had confirmed August 18 that the GoB will
provide 500,000 euros for humanitarian aid to the Georgians
but is still investigating how this aid should be
distributed, probably via either the International Red Cross
or the United Nations.
