His Excellency Barack Hussein Obama
President-Elect
United States of America
Dear H.E. Obama
I present heartfelt congratulations to you, your family, your Vice
President-Elect, the Democratic party and through you, the People of
the United States, on behalf of the Government and People of the
Commonwealth of Dominica and on my own behalf, on your victory at
the polls and on your ascension to the office of President of the
United States of America.
Your message of change, hope, and economic relief to the poor and
working class, resonated throughout the United States and indeed
through the international community in what has been dubbed the most
effective campaign of the century.
We in Dominica are gratified by your victory and the depth of your
message of change. It provides a much awaited opportunity for the
further strengthening of relations with Dominica and indeed the
wider Eastern Caribbean Region. As traditional partners and good
neighbors of the United States, the political and economic
developments of your jurisdiction, have a direct impact on the
general advancement of our region. We are also interwoven through
the direct family ties with the thousands of citizens of the
Commonwealth of Dominica and the region who currently reside, visit,
invest and work in the United States and the citizens of the United
States who reside, visit, invest and work in the region and continue
to make a meaningful contribution to all our States.
We greatly encourage and look forward to a more strategic engagement
with the United States during your tenure and to building a solid
relationship that will advance our development and promote our
common democratic values.
I look forward to working with you and your Government towards this
end.
Roosevelt Skerrit
Prime Minister
