1. (C) Pol/Econ Chief met September 22 with Juraj Podhorsky,
Director of the MFA's Security Policy Division, to deliver
reftel points. Podhorsky said that the GOS would give
serious consideration to U.S. views as outlined reftel, but
that it had not yet taken a position regarding the
advisability of NRC PrepCom meetings. Podhorsky added that
the Slovaks agree that it is premature to consider
Ambassadorial-level meetings of the NRC, but that Slovakia
wants to keep the lines of communication between NATO and
Russia open. Pol/Econ Chief stressed that the U.S. also
wanted to maintain communication on areas of priority
importance, but that that can be achieved through lower-level
meetings on an ad hoc basis.
