RADIOACTIVE PROTECTIVE CLOTHING FOR DECONTAMINATION AND DISPOSAL

Per REFTEL, on September 26, 2008, Post delivered diplomatic note
number 456 (dated September 25, 2008) to the Brazilian Ministry of
External Relations' (MRE) Division of Disarmament and Sensitive
Technologies (DDS) with respect to the proposed import into the
United States from Brazil of low level RADIOACTIVE protective
clothing from the Angra 1 nuclear power plant for decontamination
and disposal. The note requested the MRE to confirm that the
proposed transfer arrangements are satisfactory, and solicited any
comments the MRE might have regarding this proposed transfer in the
context of the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel
Management and on RADIOACTIVE Waste Management. Post will advise
Washington on the response from the MRE.
