¶1. Econoff contacted the Colombian Ministry of External
Relations (MRE) North America Desk Officer Sergio Suarez on
May 7 in response to reftel. Econoff advised Suarez that on
May 1, 2008 Colombia was certified under P.L. 101-162 and can
export all categories of shrimp to the U.S. in the coming
year. Econoff provided Suarez with the texts of the
"Certification to Congress" and "Media Note" regarding
certification (English version and unofficial Spanish
translation).
¶2. Econoff also contacted the Colombian Fisheries Institute
Deputy Director Martha Lucia de la Pava on May 7 and provided
the same information and texts.
