¶1. (C) Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev is taking a
previously unannounced trip to Germany. The presidential
press service described the trip as a "short-term vacation"
from March 3 to 16. However, an MFA official told us
"unofficially" that Bakiyev would not return to Kyrgyzstan
before the end of the month; he provided no further
information about the trip. At a March 3 press conference,
opposition figure Azimbek Beknazarov claimed that Bakiyev was
going to Germany for medical treatment.
¶2. (C) Post will seek further details of Bakiyev's reported
trip to Germany.
