1. (C) Poloffs delivered reftel to MFA Office Director for
Middle East Affairs Sabine Sparwasser on May 8. Sparwasser
expressed thanks for the U.S. report to the UNSC on
implementation of UNSCR 1803. She said that German
implementation of UNSCR 1803 will take place on two tracks:
Germany-wide and on the EU level. She said that Germany is
in the process of implementing UNSCR 1803 on a national
level, but she noted that "the EU will not be so fast" in its
implementation. In a subsequent discussion on May 13, MFA
Iran Desk Officer Florian Laudi informed Poloff that Germany
had submitted its report to the U.N. Sanctions Committee on
May 1.
2. (C) Post also delivered copies of the report to the MFA
Economic Policy and Export Control divisions, as well as to
the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Economics. Post will
report any additional substantive comments from German
officials septel.
