(S) Global Affairs officers delivered ref demarches February
8 to German MFA Export Control Division Desk Officer Nancy
Reck. Reck expressed appreciation for the information and
undertook to pass it to the German interagency export control
working group for further investigation. Reck noted that the
German Government had suspended all dual-use and
military-related exports to Pakistan pending the outcome of
parliamentary elections. Reck added that the German
Government is closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan
and speculated the Government might opt to extend the
suspension beyond the elections depending on developments.
Post will report septel any substantive German response on
ref cases.
